World Health Organization and UN Tackling Heart Disease

As always said, heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death and are a concern. However the efforts of global leaders have been on diseases that can spread such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and flus. They have been pushing for better germ control spreading outbreaks worldwide. Now I just saw the movie Contagion, yes viruses can spread quickly. However, Heart disease is a disease that we can control.
Now the global leaders are finally starting to focus on these deadly diseases. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon calls these diseases ¬†“a public health emergency in slow motion.” Heart disease, lung disease and diabetes are chronic disease that can be avoided. Lifestyle behaviours such as ¬†smoking, eating poorly, getting stressed and not exercising are contributing to these deadly chronic disease.

Next week, the U.N. General Assembly will hold its first summit on chronic diseases. WOW that is great! Nice to see the world leaders focus on preventing versus reacting. Though, we are far from prevention it is a start in the right direction. Acknowleding the problem is the first step in tacking the problem.

To your success,
